Four Thanksgiving Necessities & All That Drama
This year, I was not disappointed. The necessities were there--and at least ten other dishes that tasted great. I tried each and every one of them. Yes, I tasted AND enjoyed them. It's what Thanksgiving meals are all about. And I was more than willing to try another bunch of side dishes --I refuse to be rude to the hostess (and host) during this time of year. They feed you, give you glasses of wine, and then let you sit comatose on their couch. How else can you survive large family meals?
But what was most important for me this year, was the fact that the holiday in general lacked any immediate drama. I was able to sit and eat the entire meal without chasing after the child. No phone calls shrilled during the serving of the turkey. And not one family incident cause disruption and sour feelings. This isn't the first flawless Thanksgiving in my family history, but the the first flawless in a long time.
It felt good. Damn good. And that alone is something I am thankful for. That and all the usual safe, happy, and healthy family and friend stuff.
