Loving what you do and doing what you love
Here's a perfect example:
Him: "Mom, are you going to work today to write?"
Me: "Yes honey."
Him: "Do you like writing."
Me: "Yes I do."
Him: "Is that why you do it at home too. On your 'puter?"
...
Him: "You must really like it."
Me: "As a matter a fact, I do."
It put it a little perspective doesn't it? Now if only fiction writing was a part of the day job.
But really, this post is a lot about finding a nice day (and night) job mix--as well as fueling passions. And work conferences. In November, I'll be jumping on a flight to the southern U.S. for a work related conference. Normally, I'd be moaning the long days in endless sessions of powerpoint and *learning sessions,* but this time, I'm a bit less skeptical. They've tailored the sessions to its registrants. And hell if there isn't some fun mixed in. At least for the likes of me.
I get to blog while I am there. Stand up and run a mini session about everything from blogging to what I wear to work (and how it reflects on my workmanship). And man--I can't tell you how much this meshes what I do here on this blog, my home life, and my work life. It's a strange thought this conference, as well as a refreshing one. And hell, who can complain when it gives me 4 days away from the normal grind of the day job--for a bit of night job learning too.
