High Winds and Down Time
If you watched the Chicago Bears game yesterday you received a glimpse into the world or gusting winds and my Internet down time. I used a mom-and-pop Internet provider (meaning 2 people run the company, it deals with one *box* they call equipment, and well, it generally has good and consistent up time. Until the weather is bad.
Since it is wireless, when the weather is un-cooperative (read: gusts of winds over 30 mph) it is likely my Internet service will go down. And as expected it did. Saturday night sometime and remained out until... well, I am not sure. This morning at 7am it was still out (as I type this from my desk at work--please don't tell on me).
The twitching that is occurring in my right shoulder and hand caused my non-Internet time, no e-mail, and no blog posts is slowly on the mend. As I will be sitting in front of my computer here at work for at least another five hours, but, God help me, the Internet connection better be ready when I get home tonight, or I just might have to go ape-shit on the mom-and-pops that own the joint.
I wish my husband and I were more risky when it comes to our business sense. We were around in this neighborhood when the whole high-speed Internet access options (there were none when we moved in) were discussed. BECAUSE--if we were risk takers, or adventurous, or didn't worry about money so much, we would have joined a joint-venture business to OWN this very provide, or maybe coughed up a business loan ourselves to buy it, promote it, and service it, and well-- be more on top of these service outages than the current owners (non-residence) are. BUT, we aren't that type. We worry it will fail. We get nervous about business loans (not sure why). And well, we just worry about failing (doesn't everyone). So, we didn't and then we complain about how WE WOULD RUN the business.
Be on the look out. If you hear of some suburban Chicago Mom who went postal from Internet withdrawal (and I bet that would be the first reported case), it's me. I am making no promises for my behavior... but let's hope I can keep it polite if I have to make the call to the support voice-mail.
