"Enough with the Mommy Posts!"
I can hear you screaming it-- don't lie! So, this post won't have a thing to do about motherhood--I'll focus on all the non-writing I have been doing.
Like last night for instance--child when to bed relatively early and easily. I had all the time in the world to write, or at least get some ideas down on paper, to work on the non-fiction project, fix the Introduction, write more in the latest novel, maybe even write a blog post--but what did I do? Checked e-mail, read my 40+ blogs I tag along with, and then talked with my husband. For almost 2 hours!
Not that this was a bad thing (really, communication is key people), nor was this not an unwarranted rant about being parents and the judgments we endure by other family members, neighbors, and strangers. It was a pleasant, we-must-have-needed-this talk that every married couple haves at one time or another. And for us, those kinda talks along with the heart-to-heart-I-have-a-problem or let's-talk-about-serious-things discussions happen at night. In college, this was no big deal at all--we were both night people my gene and could stay up all night and live on a few hours of sleep. But now as adults and as parents--these all night talks (and yes 2 hours merits an all night talk once you have a child and a job to worry about) can really knock the energy out of your system.
Not that I am complaining. Really, I am not. I'm just itching for some coffee. A large large glass that is about the size of a 12 pot carafe made extra strong.
