The Great Trek North
At the very last moment near Noon on Friday, we (child and I) headed north (it is likely that it was closer to 2:30ish when I finally packed all of our clothes, bathroom stuff, and toys). I wanted to visit my grandma--as she isn't doing so well. And knew if I didn't get my ass up to the Great White North (really it is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but it sounds more exotic with a name that lends itself to the snow it gets a good 7 months out of the year).
And that is precisely why I decided to take the road trip now... because theoretically it is before the snow flies. Theoretically, that is. Because the NIGHT BEFORE I arrived it snowed. And they awoke the next morning to everything covered in a dusting of white. Lovely. But I am pleased to say that I did not encounter one snowflake on the drive. Nor freezing rain (which was predicted). Just cold, cold, and more cold. And some sprinkles of rain.
Visit was good. Talking with Grandma good. Watching my son interact with the hoards of cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles-- a RIOT. The kid was born to be in front of a crowd. So much so, all the applause and cheers induced from a successful potty trip has now rendered my son almost COMPLETELY potty trained! Yes, no accidents at all since he declared himself a big boy at 12:30pm on Friday afternoon. Let's see how long it lasts.
But after 14 hours of driving (round trip) we are back at home and back to our regularly scheduled work and blogging program. Sorry for the brief, unannounced vacation.
