Announcing :: mommy underground

Monday, August 29, 2005 by Bethany

So, with great anxiety, I present to you my latest writing and marketing efforts :
mommy underground (mu), the bimonthly newsletter with the balls (err, should we say tits?) to give you motherhood in the real. No fluff. No superficial expectations. Just raw truths to demystify what motherhood entails. Expect humor, snark, and a little groveling.

Featured articles for each issue are posted online. Subscribers can receive the full newsletter via email by subscribing here or send a blank e-mail to mommy_underground-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. First issue slated to hit internet wires September 2, 2005 with a release schedule for the first and third Friday of each month (unless life and motherhood get in the way--not necessarily in that order) and we're delayed.

*Hey, don't worry, subscriptions are free. You just have to sign-up for a Yahoo account.
What's mu all about? I'll be attempting the great feat of using humor and snark to give you the low-down on motherhood. Mom-to-Mom. Keeping it as real as real can be. Here's a sampler of what is currently slated for the first issue:

  • Pulling back the Sheepskin: The Why behind mu [will be available online]
    In a society where money, image, and stature are most valued, the editor (me) explores why we need to get-over our image of being super-mom and get to the real in motherhood to save our sanity and help the new generation of moms be better prepared for parenthood. In essence, the why behind mu's creation.

  • Mothers Anonymous: Looking for not-so-perfect mothers in your neighborhood? [subscription only]
    Here's a guide to finding compatible girlfriends AND suitable playgroup buddies for our children. A top 10 list for identifying some good mommy friends that will help you survive the first year and beyond--and of course, make you feel normal in the abnormal realm of raising children.

  • Blogging Mommies [subscription only]
    If you haven't ventured online yet to discover the world of mommy bloggers you are in for a surprise. Mommy blogs have taken over the Internet--and if you need a hand deciphering which ones will have you peeing your pants or laughing your ass off-- you've found the right place.

  • Greener Grasses in the Workplace (or Not) [subscription only]
    Think you need to get back into the workforce now that your child has moved passed infancy? Does the hope of adult interaction, responsibilities beyond homework and diapers, and helping bring in some extra dough seem like a dream come true? I'll share my journey back into the workplace-- and you decide.
I hope I see the subscriptions soar (okay, maybe not... I'm a little excited and nervous about this little side project) and welcome to the mommy underground!
